Rinda West Designs - Garden Sanctuaries for Chicago
why native plants?   continued
Native landscapes retain interest throughout the seasons, with rich autumn colors and interesting winter seed heads to add to the pleasure of spring and summer flowers. Most native species are perennials, so they will come up year after year, unlike the petunias or impatiens you buy at the home center.

There are some myths about native landscaping that need to be countered: Native plants do NOT cause allergies! Most native plants are not wind-pollinated, so they are not contributing to allergic suffering. Native plantings do NOT look like weeds! A thoughtful design that incorporates native plants will beautify your landscape and make it more ecologically responsible.
